Drawing on 35 years of experience as a teacher and principal, Dr. Alan Jones believes that if school leaders truly want to improve schools they can no longer perform their jobs as if it were business as usual. The traditional view of instructional leadership sees it primarily as a management function, but Jones challenges school leaders instead to look at instructional leadership as an educational function.

Dr. Alan C. Jones is currently Associate Professor of Educational Administration for Saint Xavier University, Chicago, IL. He taught English and social studies before serving as Principal of Community High School in West Chicago, IL for seventeen years. Under his leadership, Community High School was recognized as a Blue Ribbon School of Excellence.
