What is the School Leadership Briefing app?
Our app provides you with access to our monthly content of audio interviews and presentations, and an archive of our past issues.
The app works on either a cellular network or Wi-Fi. Audio files may be streamed or downloaded for later listening. If using an iPad without cellular service, it is recommended that you download any individual files you would like to listen to when you’re not connected to Wi-Fi.
Does the app require a subscription?
Our app itself is free, but to access any of our material requires a subscription. If you don’t already subscribe, you can sign up here.
I don’t have a current subscription. How do I subscribe?
Please visit our Sign Up page and select either subscription option. Your satisfaction is 100% guaranteed and you may cancel at any time and receive a refund for the unused portion of your subscription.

How do I download the School Leadership Briefing app?
There are two ways to download the app:
(1) On your iPhone or iPad, click the icon for the Apple App Store. Use the search tab to search for “School Leadership Briefing.” Click on the search result for the “School Leadership Briefing” application, which will bring you to our app page. You can then install the app from there.
(2) Within the iTunes application on your computer, click the “App Store” link in the navigation in the top of the left column. Use the search tab to search for “School Leadership Briefing.” Click on the search result for the “School Leadership Briefing” application, which will bring you to our app page. You can then install the app from there.
After you’ve downloaded the app to iTunes, you’ll need to sync your iPad and/or iPhone. Once you do that, the app will be transferred to your device.
When you open the app for the first time, you’ll be prompted to enter the email address associated with your subscription. Enter that once and you’ll be able to access the app. As long as you don’t sign out of the app, you won’t be prompted to log in again.
What devices does the app work on?
We currently support all iPad models, and iPhones running iOS 4 or iOS 5. An Android app will be available this summer.
What features does School Leadership Briefing app have?
Our monthly content is delivered to your device automatically each month, usually right on or around the first day of the month. If you have allowed us to send you Push notifications, you’ll receive a brief notice letting you know that new content is available.
All of the audio content can be streamed over Wi-Fi or cellular networks or downloaded for listening later.
What are push notifications and why do we send them?
Push notifications are alerts that you receive on your digital device. In our case, we use them to alert you when a new issue is available on your iPad or mobile phone. We may also use them to alert you to take the monthly assessment quiz, if you haven’t done so in a while. If you receive your subscription through a state association or other large group, we may send you notifications on behalf of the group.
If I’m interrupted, can I resume listening to an article where I left off?
Yes. If, for example, you receive a phone call while listening to an article, or even if you just need to close the app before you have finished listening, when you re-open the app you should be able to resume listening where you left off.
What does “Save for Later” mean and how does the download functionality work?
Each audio file provides you with two options:
1) You can begin listening immediately by clicking on the arrow under “Listen to Audio;” this requires you to have access to either a Wi-Fi network or wireless service. When you listen to audio in this mode, you are streaming it from our servers. This is the easiest and most frequent way you will want to listen to the audio.
2) If you want to listen to audio when you do not have access to Wi-Fi or wireless services, then you can select “Save” to download the audio to your device. You need to save the audio to your device while you have Wi-Fi or wireless access, though. Once it’s saved, you’ll be able to listen if you don’t have any connection through either Wi-Fi or a wireless connection.
How do I delete downloaded files?
On either the iPad or iPhone, touch the icon with the small “i” in the header, which will take you to the Information page of the app. The first item in this list is “Delete Saved Audio.” Once you press this, any audio files you have saved to your device will be deleted. Since audio and video files can take up a lot of room, we recommend that you regularly delete the files that you download. You can always download them again if needed.
Can I read/listen to content in Airplane Mode?
If you have downloaded any audio files before going into Airplane Mode you will be able to listen to those content pieces. Please note that the app may or may not correctly display images or text in Airplane Mode.
Can I listen to the app while using another application?
No. When you close the app, it will stop playing any audio you are listening to. When you re-open the app, it will begin playing where you left off.
Can I use the app while traveling in other countries?
Yes. However, international roaming and data rates may apply, depending on the terms of your plan.
Where do I send questions/feedback about the app?
Please use our Contact Form to submit any questions or feedback about the app.
How do I remove the iPhone app from my iPad or iPhone?
Simply touch the application icon on the device screen and hold it until all the application icons vibrate. You will then see a small “x” in the upper left hand corner of the app icon. Press it to delete the application. (You will be prompted to confirm the action.)
